Awarded by: The University of Oregon New Venture Competition

A business plan by MBA students to commercialize solar panel technology patented by one of HKUST’s Engineering professors won two prizes at the international University of Oregon New Venture Competition.

The team took first prize for Best Trade Show and for the Lightning Round competition. A total of 16 teams competed at the event, held in Portland, Oregon in April.

The HKUST team comprised Clement Dieudonne, Simon Zhu and Nicky Loh and they attributed a large part of their success to their learning in the one-week intensive Enhancing Professional Skills course which was introduced last year. They also won the CEIBS competition in Shanghai in March.

The two wins in Oregon came with prizes of US$1,500 each so the students returned with a total US$3,000 for their new venture.
