HKUST Business School PhD Program concluded its fourth annual student conference. The conference was held off campus at the School’s new MSc Learning Hub in Kwun Tong.
The audience enjoyed 16 presentations from students from six business disciplines. To stimulate cross-disciplinary interactions, each presentation was discussed by a student from a different department, making the sessions more engaging and more accessible to broader audience. Moreover, cross-disciplinary discussions generated unexpected questions that helped speakers improve their research and future presentations. Some faculty members also raised questions and gave suggestions to the presenters.
The conference is attended by over 100 PhD students and faculty, drawing audience from also master programs including non-business disciplines.
This year’s conference also welcomed participants from Tsinghua University, including LIU Zanhui, who presented part of his PhD research. Attendees—including students, presenters, and faculty—regarded the conference as a valuable platform for learning and networking. At the conclusion of the event, ZHANG Yunbo from the Department of Marketing was awarded Best Paper, receiving the Best Paper Award from PhD Program Director Prof. Ralf VAN DER LANS (left image), while CHAU Yuet Ning from the Department of Finance received first runner-up (right image), based on evaluations from both audience and faculty judges.

After the conference, students and faculty continued their interactions in a relaxed setting over a dinner gathering.
