Team Wildcard, comprising finance undergraduates Jamie WONG and Paco LAU, together with Ani YEUN (Economics and Finance) and Ryan MAK (Quantitative Finance), won the Global Final of the GAIP Insurance Innovation Competition 2026 in Singapore with their innovative student-focused micro-insurance solution – UniShield.
After capturing the Hong Kong local title, the team reimagined UniShield from a local student insurance bundle into an APAC-scale lifecycle protection platform. Using AI-driven risk assessment and regional partnerships, the concept aims to make insurance coverage more accessible for young people across borders.
Competing against top teams from across Asia-Pacific, they emerged as global champions with a solution that is student-centric, data-powered, and built for mobility. As team member Jamie Wong reflected, "Your perspective is your advantage. The problems you live every day are the ones worth solving," Their success highlights how everyday challenges can be transformed into technology-enabled solutions with the potential to scale across markets.
