Author Daniel Pink, famous for his latest book A Whole New Mind, has scheduled to make his first appearance in Hong Kong on May 26 as a keynote speaker at a conference to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program.
A Whole New Mind portrays the importance of "right-brain" abilities in the modern world and the times ahead. Applying the same principle, Daniel Pink will address the Hong Kong audience on "How to Give Your Organization A New Brain" later this month.
Sold more than 100,000 copies in the US and has been translated into 12 languages, A Whole New Mind charts the rise of right-brain thinking in modern economies. The book has been credited for the provocative and original ideas that it offers for individuals and organizations to excel. It has been widely adopted as the basis for executive coaching.
Alfred Cheung Kin Ting, award-winning local film director and the public-speaking coach for HKSAR Chief Executive contestant Alan Leong, has based his leadership coaching design upon Mr Pink's book.
"The artistic and holistic qualities in "right-brain" thinking are what differentiate the average from the excellent, and the isolated from the embracing. I particularly liked the story-telling approach which has proved to be very effective in my training offered to CEOs and other leaders," said Mr Cheung.
"I recommended Pink's book to Alan Leong and persuaded him to use a story to conclude his election debate in the first round. That debate boosted the public opinion in support of him. I hope Alan will attend Pink's talk later this month and thank him personally for that," said Mr Cheung.
Daniel Pink has been invited by the HKUST Business School to take part as a keynote speaker in a management conference to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program, its partnership EMBA program with the Kellogg School of Management. The overarching theme of the conference is "Moving Forward in the Next Decade". The conference will be opened by Mr Henry Tang, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government. There are a total of three keynote speakers, including Mr. Pink. The other two keynote speakers are Mr David Li Kwok-po, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Bank of East Asia and Prof. Dipak Jain, Dean of the Kellogg School of Management.
The Conference will also feature two plenary sessions and a number of concurrent break-out sessions. Speakers include Mr Anthony Nightingale, Managing Director of Jardine Matheson Limited, Mr James Thompson, Chairman of Crown Worldwide Group, Mr David Cunningham, President, Asia Pacific Division, FedEx, Mr Lawrence Wong, Former CEO, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mr Peter Stein, Hong Kong Bureau Chief, The Wall Street Journal, HKUST Business School Professors Gary Biddle and Caroline Wang, Kellogg School of Management Professors Ranjay Gulati and Lakshman Krishnamurthi.
Prof. Steven DeKrey, Founding Director of the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program, who will be co-chairing the conference with Prof. Stephen Burnett from Kellogg, said, "Together, the aggregate knowledge and insights represented at the Conference will help us go beyond the crystal-ball as we anticipate what lies ahead. It is our objective that participants will leave this Conference with new ideas and insights for the future."
The "Moving Forward in the Next Decade" conference will be held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong on May 26 from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. Website: www.bm.ust.hk/kh10th.
