Proficiency in digital financial skills has become an essential requirement for individuals pursuing careers in the finance and business sectors. Recognizing the importance of promoting financial literacy among young people, the Fintech and Green Finance Projects and the Undergraduate Programs Office of HKUST Business School proudly supported the Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC) to organize the half-day seminar Basics of Fintech, which was a part of the Digital Financial Literacy Program for Youth 2023/24 - Four-Cell Story and Mini-Movie Competition for secondary school students. The Program was organized by IFEC in collaboration with the Education Bureau and Hong Kong Economic Journal Education, and HKUST Business School contributed as the university partner. The Basics of Fintech seminar was successfully held on March 23.

The event commenced with a tour of the HKUST Clear Water Bay campus and an introduction to the Business School by Prof. SIU Kam-Wing (left), Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs and Associate Professor of Business Education of the Department of Economics. Students were able to immerse themselves in the dynamic learning environment and explore the wide array of opportunities available at the School.

The Thematic Seminar on Basics of Fintech presented by Prof. Simon AU YEUNG (right), Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management, who shared valuable insights on the trending topic of blockchain and its impact on the financial industry, captivated over 400 online and offline participants.

The session was followed by a panel discussion on Shaping Financially Literate Youth in the Digital Age. Prof. AU YEUNG, together with Mr. Allen LAU, Founder and CEO of ONEFi Financial Technology, and Mr. Edurado CHIU, Consumer Education Officer at the Consumer Council, shared their valuable insights on a range of topics, including cryptocurrencies, the use of AI for financial management, and tips to safeguard web privacy.
