HKUST Fintechstic, the annual fintech education event organized by the HKUST Business School and a satellite event of Hong Kong FinTech Week 2023, engaged students and the public this year in exploring the dynamic field of green finance and the potential for financial innovations. The student competition attracted 250 registrations from various local universities. To prepare students for the competition, two webinars were organized, featuring experts from the green finance and digital assets sectors. These webinars not only provided valuable insights and knowledge for the students, but also served as a platform for public education attracting over 500 participants.
In addition to the student competition, Fintechstic 2023 has achieved remarkable success in raising public awareness about green finance through the prize quiz, “Green Finance 100 Online Trivia”. The quiz garnered participation from over 3,500 individuals from the public, providing them with a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge while enjoying a fun-filled experience.
The Grand Finale of the student competition concluded successfully in late October, where two winning teams were crowned out of five exceptional finalist teams. Composed of students from HKUST, HKU, and CUHK, the finalist teams presented their outstanding fintech ideas to propel Hong Kong towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the judging panel. The two winning teams were entitled to cash prizes along with valuable support to grow their business ideas. As the competition is integrated as part of the TADS Awards this year, the champions are also winners of the newly added student category of the TADS Awards. They will join the global award recipients at the upcoming presentation ceremony, which honors contributions and achievements in the Tokenized Assets and Digital Securities (TADS) sector.
