The HKUST Business School held the second PhD Students Research Paper Competition on 16 May 2003. Many PhD students and faculty showed their support to this annual event and the competition held successfully. It served the objective of promoting an active and competitive research environment in our PhD Programs.This year the panel received over ten submissions of research papers and the best four papers are selected as finalists to present their papers and answered questions from the faculty and their fellow students during this competition. The panel members were impressed by their good presentation and the high quality research.
Winners are :
- Kot Hung Wan of Finance Department, Winner of the competition (Year four), his paper is on "Do Financial Analysts' Forecasts Really Proxy for Investors' Opinion?"
- Chen Zhihong of Accounting Department, Winner of the competition (Year three or below), his paper is on "Does firm-specific return variation reduce mispricing of accounting earnings?"
- Yuanto Kunsnadi of Finance Department, Finalist, his paper is on "Stock Return Autocorrelations, Cross-Autocorrelations and Market Conditions in Japan" - Ma Zihui of Economics Department, Finalist, his paper is on "A Model of Bank Runs: Imperfect Competition and Feedback Effect"
