Over the past two years, the Operations Management Group of the Business School—comprising Operations Management and Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) program faculty and students—has partnered with Tseung Kwan O Hospital’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department and Anaesthesia & Operating Theatre (OT) Services on four collaborative projects.

These initiatives harness AI, big data, and operations management techniques to improve healthcare efficiency and performance. The work is particularly timely given the rapidly aging population in Kowloon East, which places immense pressure on the Kowloon East Hospital Cluster.

Representatives from the team presented one of these joint projects at the “Bridging Clinical Effectiveness and Healthcare Efficiency” forum for Kowloon East Cluster medical staff. The event opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Loletta SO, Chief Executive of Kowloon East Hospital. The team shared findings from a patient satisfaction survey and cost-effectiveness analysis of the Nurse-Led Elderly Hearing Loss Clinic at TKO Hospital. The project involved YEUNG Wing Chi Zenon, Consultant of the ENT Department Tseung Kwan O Hospital, Prof. YU Man, Prof. SHEN Yiwen, and Prof. CHEUNG Ki Ling of the Business School. Since established in 2021, the clinic has successfully reduced waiting times for consultations and hearing aid prescriptions, enhancing the quality of life for elderly patients. Building on this momentum, new collaborations are planned in Fall 2026.
