HKUST Pioneers with HKEX in Sustainable Finance Education

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announced its partnership with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) to pioneer a course on Sustainable Finance. The HKUST-HKEX partnership reflects a joint effort to nurture the next generation of talent for one of the fastest growing segments in today’s investment and fund management industry and in support Hong Kong to be a global green finance hub. This is the first time that HKEX partners with a university in Asia in offering an executive education course in this important field.

As an international finance center, Hong Kong is uniquely positioned in Asia with an established network of funding sources and instruments to drive green projects in the region. The course jointly developed by the HKUST Business School and HKEX is designed for students who look for new knowledge and skills to advance their career in this emerging field and address the talent gap for Hong Kong to develop into a green finance hub.

To be offered in Spring term 2022 for MBA students, the elective course Sustainable Finance with Business Practices”, introduces the framework of sustainable finance and responsible investing and examines various approaches to ESG investing, relevant products and strategies across asset classes, and the governed practices. With experienced faculty from HKUST and experts from HKEX, students will be able to understand the key challenges and opportunities in different contexts of green and sustainable finance.

The course represents a joint effort between the HKUST Business School and HKEX in providing easy access to information and knowledge on green finance and driving the sustainable finance agenda in Hong Kong and beyond.

Some of the topics of the new course include:

  • Background and history of sustainable finance and key players in the ecosystem
  • Latest developments in sustainable finance, from regulations and standards to market trends
  • Activities and strategies of sustainable investment
  • Green and sustainable investment products across asset classes

The new course attests to the shared commitment of HKUST and HKEX in driving sustainable and green finance in Asia.
