A week-long competition with training from industry players and a real world business case challenge is designed for the next generation to play a leading role in the fintech industry.
(Hong Kong, October 16, 2020) The HKUST Business School today announced the start of “Fintechstic”, a fintech event series designed for student learning and practical applications, and is a part of the Fintech Education Series of the Hong Kong Fintech Week 2020. This event series will take place from 12 October to 7 November and is supported by InvestHK and AngelHub.
With personal finance as the main theme, the event series involves week-long quizzes, an array of workshops and a business case challenge designed by fintech industry partners gini and Tap & Go by HKT Payment Limited.
“These activities seek to sharpen students’ problem-solving skills and prepare them for the fast-changing fintech industry and its diverse career prospects,” says Prof TAM Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School. “We are grateful to partner with InvestHK and AngelHub, as well as gini and Tap & Go, for making this multi-party collaboration event series possible. Our students will be able to gain first-hand exposure the latest trends and opportunities in the industry.”
The quizzes and workshops are open to all HKUST students to participate individually, whereas the business case challenge will take on a team competition format. Students will be challenged to solve real business issues especially designed by gini (for the expense trackers stream) and Tap & Go (for the digital wallets stream). Teams that ascend to the final round will pitch their solutions to a judging panel using presentations or videos that will also be streamed via Zoom on 7 November. The winning team for each stream will receive cash prizes and fast-track interview opportunities offered by the co-organizing companies.
“I’m delighted to have this opportunity to mentor fintech enthusiasts and share my experience with them,” says Ricardo Mota, CTO of gini, who will be leading the workshop on expense trackers and judging the competition. “I’m excited to see what these bright young minds will come up with, and will do my part in helping Hong Kong transform into a leading fintech hub.”
“We’re pleased to collaborate with the HKUST Business School on the Fintechstic Competition for Hong Kong Fintech Week and help young talents gain exposure to the real fintech world,” says Monita Leung, CEO of HKT Payment Limited. “It’s a good opportunity for us to connect with the youth segment and listen to their ideas. By unleashing the students’ creativity and potential, we also hope to equip them with the tools to succeed in fintech.”
