Congratulations to Liwei Huang Associate Professor of Business and Associate Professor JI Yan of the Department of Finance for receiving funding of RMB 2 million for his research project “Macro Finance” from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Excellent Young Scientist (EYS) Scheme (Hong Kong and Macau).

The proposed research will study the implications of idiosyncratic tail risk for the asset returns of firms operating in imperfectly competitive product markets. Prof. Ji will develop economic models to understand how idiosyncratic tail risk determines firms’ asset returns by affecting market competition, even though such risk can be perfectly diversified by investors.

The NSFC EYS Scheme offers support to young academics who obtained good achievements in basic research and encourages them to focus on self-chosen areas for innovative research. Since 2019, EYS has been open for direct applications by academics in Hong Kong and Macau.
