Established in honor of the late Prof. CHAN Yuk-Shee, the Yuk-Shee Chan Professorship in Business was recently bestowed upon the eminent Prof. SHI Mengze, Chair Professor of Marketing. On September 26, an inauguration ceremony was held for this and another seven named professorships.
The late Prof. Chan Yuk-Shee contributed significantly to the academic development of HKUST during his 16 years of service at the University. He was appointed Founding Dean of HKUST Business School in 1993 and served as Vice-President for Academic Affairs of the University from 2001 to 2006. In 2007, Prof. Chan became the President of Lingnan University, a post he held until his retirement in 2013.
A leading finance scholar with a global vision, Prof. Chan played a pivotal role in boosting the international standing of HKUST Business School and making it “World Class in Asia”. Among the many achievements of the School under his leadership was the launch of the Executive MBA program in partnership with the Kellogg School of Management.
The professorship holder, Prof. Shi Mengze, has research interests in marketing innovation, incentives and motivation as well as customer relationship management. He has published papers in top-tier journals and his research findings have gained recognition worldwide. His research on the quantitative modeling of consumer decisions and behavior has game-changing implications for sectors as diverse as online publishing and competitive sports.
