Congratulations to Year 2 Information Systems & Big Data Technology student Andrew CHAN Gachun for being one of the 25 winners of the Innovation and Technology Scholarship in Hong Kong. With the prize valued at HKD150,000, the scheme also includes an Overseas Attachment Program as well as Mentorship and Service Project Programs, all of which will become useful resources for Andrew to realize his goal - leveraging data and tech ideas towards social innovation.
In conjunction with Enactus, the largest student-led NGO, Andrew has collaborated with large corporations such as Morgan Stanley and PwC to conduct social-impact hackathons, mentorships, and internships. Through this collaboration, Andrew has been attempting to democratize low-code analytics to all students, instill analytics into education, and popularize social impact projects in data science. Leveraging the scholarship, Andrew plans to join the National University of Singapore for several weeks as well as connect with the corporate environment through his mentor, Hon Duncan CHIU, the President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Joint Council (HKITJC), to engage with corporate, academic and governmental stakeholders in furthering his goals and ideals.
The Innovation and Technology Scholarship created by the Hong Kong Government, HSBC and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, aims to provide high achieving students in STEM with the opportunity to expand their connections, gain exposure to experts in the field and encourage students to have a long-lasting career in science and technology.
