A huge congratulations to Year 4 student Justin Pak-Hin CHAN, BBA (Accounting & Finance), for winning the Champion title in the Ernst & Young’s Young Tax Professional of the Year 2021 (Greater China Final). By bringing together students from all over the world, the competition aims to foster a next generation of tax leaders.
“Tax is a lifelong learning topic. It is rapidly changing in today’s globalization age, where there is a strong need to unify current differences among various tax jurisdictions. The competition enabled me to develop a broader and more comprehensive picture of the tax world and to have a better understanding of any future news regarding new tax policies, such as the minimum global corporate tax rate set during G20,” said Justin.
“The knowledge I have gained from the competition is transferable and has been a huge advantage for me during my summer internship in the tax department of a financial services firm,” he added. “I was also glad to have the opportunity to interact with the tax partner at the Hong Kong Office and was invited to join his team upon graduation. The experience has truly transformed my understanding of the concept of tax and my future career.”
Together with Justin, 44 finalists representing 63 countries will participate in this year's Ernst & Young Tax Professional of the Year international final. Established in 2010, the international competition was designed to identify young talent with an interest in tax and help them enhance their skills and develop their careers.
Our Year 3 undergraduate student CHAU Leong-Kit (Economics & Management) was also part of a winning team in the Virtual Case Competition – International Business Agility Lab: Sustainability in Iceland. The competition was organized by the Robert H. Smith School of Business – University of Maryland. Crossing five international borders, three time zones, and three continents, the virtual competition allowed undergraduate students to learn from global business leaders, collaborate with international peers, and focus on developing business resilience. Additionally, taking part in competitions is a great way for students to gain valuable and practical experience to enhance their educational experience. On December 1, the fifth Annual Value Investing Challenge was successfully concluded. The challenge was designed to complement participants’ studies in finance by promoting value investing and encouraging students to perform fundamental, bottom-up stock research in the Asia-Pacific Region. This year, 21 teams submitted their reports to value a publicly listed stock, and six teams were selected to proceed to the final round.
