This September, the Executive Education Office launched a multi-modular Management Development Program (MDP) specially designed for HKSAR government departments and related organizations. Eighty-four participants from 17 departments and other organizations have enrolled in the 36th and 37th edition of the program.

Comprising of four modules of intensive classes over six months, the program adopted a blended learning mode due to pandemic-related regulations and offered participants a combination of physical and virtual classes. The nine-day learning journey covered various modules, including Managerial Decision Making, Leadership and Change Management, Negotiation, as well as Crisis and Stress Management. The program was led by experienced faculty and allowed participants to enhance and develop practical and essential skills for advancement. In addition, the program also inspired participants to cultivate a more critical and structured way of thinking to assist them in making better decisions and becoming highly competent leaders.

The first module on Managerial Decision Making commenced on a positive note as participants showed strong commitment to the program and actively contributed during class discussions. Coming from various departments, the module also provided a unique opportunity for participants to expand their network and share and leverage the wealth of their experiences with each other. The module was well-received by the classes and commented on the practicality of the framework covered in the module useful in their daily decision-making process.

What’s more, between October 26 and 27, the Executive Education Office launched the new open program in Big Data Applications in Business. The program is designed for executives to gain a better understanding of their customers and learn to formulate actionable strategies to maximize business opportunities.

The program explored the pitfalls and biases of managerial decision making and how a data-driven decision mindset can help increase objectivity and effectiveness, the data-driven decision-making framework of data analytics, data types, sources, and collection methods, analytic techniques and practical experience, how to measure the success of data analytics, and planning for data analytics and project management.

The program was led by ISOM Professor Rong ZHENG in a systemic way to support participants in acquiring, analyzing, and experimenting with data collected from internal and external sources to identify and exploit business opportunities at different stages of the value chain.

Participants consisted of senior executives from nine leading companies of various industries and functions, including C-level executives, with an average of 18 years of working experience. They found the program practical and interesting with many takeaways.
