On May 6, HKUST signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tencent Finance Academy (Hong Kong) (TFAHK) to nurture the next generation of fintech talent. The signing ceremony was part of a Youth Forum hosted by TFAHK and allowed audiences to gain a better understanding of the developments of the Greater Bay Area and help young talent explore career opportunities in the region.

Leveraging on the University’s outstanding academic foundation on fintech and Tencent’s practical industry experience, the MoU establishes a strategic partnership to foster the development of the fintech industry through collaboration on education and research and development projects. Both parties will also collaborate on a new series of fintech case studies for tertiary education purposes and provide real business cases for students to develop an all-rounded knowledge of the industry.

Additionally, the University and Tencent will work together to develop a fintech-focused curriculum. This allows the University to integrate Tencent’s extensive business experience to promote the development of an innovative talent model. Other initiatives include internship opportunities for HKUST students, joint fintech-related research and development projects, guidance on conducting research projects, and potential education outreach programs to raise public awareness about the industry.
