Hong Kong’s First AI MBA Elective Tailored for Business Leaders
A number of local dailies and online portals (including , Sing Tao, Quamnet, Bastillepost 18Hall, Mirage, Lion Rock Daily) reported the collaboration between HKUST and Microsoft HK to launch the first AI MBA elective in Hong Kong. The elective will tailor core components based on the online materials provided by Microsoft’s Global AI Business School initiative. In addition, there will be industry case studies, practical guides, and technology talks to help students stay at the cutting edge of AI. This business-focused course will also be available for students of HKUST MSc programs with a plan to extend to executive education programs in future.

Producing the Right Talent (Oct)
Hong Kong Echo Magazine (p.24-27), published by the French Chamber in HK, featured a series of articles and interviews on talent development. In one of the interviews, Prof. TAM Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School, underscored the highly diverse student body at HKUST, and the ongoing effort to keep its curriculum relevant, by introducing courses such as data analytics, FinTech and coding. He also talked about the unique partnership maintained with Kellogg and more recently with SKOKOVOV, as well as the new Guangzhou campus to position for a myriad of opportunities in GBA.
Cost of Negotiating While Being Nice (Oct 31)
An US online portal the List, which features pop culture and trends, interviewed Prof. Martha JEONG, Department of Management. She explained the high cost of negotiating while being nice, and talked about an experiment designed to measure the effectiveness of being ‘warm and nice’ vs being ‘tough and firm’ in negotiations.
About HKUST Business School Admission Requirements (Oct 31)
Ming Pao Dailyfeatured the admission requirements at the HKUST Business School. The article reported that with the cancellation of the Info Day, the School is about to arrange 60 talks and Q&A sessions online. HKUST Scholars Gained the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Oct 29)
Xinhua, Wen Wei Po, Lion Rock Daily and China news reported that three young researchers at HKUST have achieved excellent results in the inaugural round of the 2019 Excellent Young Scientists Fund
(Hong Kong and Macau).They have been awarded this prominent fund under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, which is highly competitive and only 25 projects are funded in Hong Kong and Macau. ISOM Assistant Prof. LI Yingying is among the three scholars at HKUST who has received the funding of HKD1.5 million, to support her research in Hong Kong.

HK Economic Journal carried an article (解牛集) by ECON Prof. Albert PARK who discussed on whether the Belt and Road is a "debt trap" diplomacy or an initiative for promoting prosperity.
HK GDP May Fall Negative this Year (Oct 22)
Oriental Daily interviewed Prof. SIU Kim Wing, Associate Director (UG Programs) of HKUST Business School on how HK’s GDP will fall negative this year if the Sino-US trade war and social unrests in HK worsen. However, he does not expect stagflation in Hong Kong because the current economy has not contracted and the inflation level is not too high.
HK Colonial Nostalgia Dismissed(Oct 21)
China Daily cited comments by ECON Adjunct/ Emeritus Prof. Francis LUI on the HK colonial nostalgia shown during the recent civil unrests, saying that the protesters, most of whom have never experienced British colonial rule, glorify it for political purposes.
Digital Tax on Tech Companies (Oct 14)
HK Economic Journal carried an article (解牛集) by ACCT Associate Prof. Allen HUANG. He explained why a digital tax is needed in the new digital economy and how it can be implemented. He commented that in order to prevent foreign companies from avoiding taxation, many countries have proposed to levy digital taxes and expand the scope of taxation.

Sky Post carried a column article by ECON Adjunct/ Emeritus Prof. Francis LUI about a gathering in Beijing which was organized by former protestors of the "Defend Diaoyu Islands" movement. It noted that the mainlanders are optimistic about the future while Hongkongers are in deep despair.
Apps to Check Minibus Arrival Time (Oct 3)
TVB features an interview with alumni, respectively from the Business School and Engineering School, Jason YUEN and Simon TSANG. They have co-developed a new “USTransit” app which provides information about the actual arrival time of minibuses in a TV program.
