Hong Kong Fintech Week is a major annual event led by InvestHK to promote fintech development in the city. With a mission to nurturing future talent for the fintech industry, HKUST Business School pledges to provide full support to HK Fintech Week every year.
This year our Fintech Research Project Team organized a series of activities that echoed the Education Series of the HK Fintech Week. These activities were designed to provide enriching learning opportunities for students and alumni, and promote fintech in the HKUST community. King LEUNG, Head of Fintech of InvestHK, was on hand in some of these activities to speak and exchange with students.
Hong Kong’s First Blockchain-themed Case Competition
To start with, the HKUST x HashKey Blockchain Business Model Challenge was launched on October 30-31.
In addition to two blcokchain workshops delivered by Prof CHEN Yanzhen, Department of ISOM at HKUST, and Ben El-Baz, Head of Ecosystems, HashKey Group, this event featured two rounds of head-on-head competition joined by 20 teams formed by 80 students and alumni. Winners were selected by a judging panel with representatives from HKUST Business School, HashKey Group, Wanxiang Blockchain Labs, Cyberport Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong. Also thanks to Cyberport and InvestHK for supporting this first-of-its-kind case competition in Hong Kong!
Fun-filled Activities Featured in “Fintechstic”
Our month-long event to support HK Fintech Week concluded with another series of activities under a “Fintechstic” initiative held between October 12 and November 7.
Fintechstic is a series of fun-filled activities co-organized between HKUST Business School, gini and Tap & Go by HKT, with support from AngelHub and InvestHK. Some 200 students and alumni participated in an online quiz challenge, workshops and a case competition, with fabulous prizes presented to winners.
The Fintechstic Case Competition Finale was held on November 7, where eight case proposals were shortlisted from 20 to compete in the final. This competition together with other activities organized during the month aimed to prepare our young generation for the fast-changing fintech industry and allow them to gain first-hand exposure to the latest trends and opportunities ahead.
