reported on a webinar organized by Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF), where the Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government Mr Paul CHAN, together with a panel of guest speakers including Dean of HKUST Business School Prof TAM Kar Yan, discussed the prospects of digital and green finance in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Standard, WWP and Quamnet reported on a panel featuring “The Belt and Road Initiative in ASEAN”, in which Prof Albert PARK, Head of the Department of Economics, presented the findings of a research project – a two-year study project of six countries in ASEAN jointly conducted by the HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS) and United Overseas Bank (UOB).

Meanwhile, in a forum on the development of HK and the Greater Bay Area, he said all the GBA cities have their unique comparative advantages and they are complementary to each other.

Biden’s New Strategy to Tackle the US-China Trade Conflict (Nov 20)
BBC Chinese carried an article on the development of Sino-US trade war after Joe BIDEN took office. Head and Chair Prof Albert PARK, Department of Economics, said Biden did not have any political motives to soften US stance on China and he would have to spend quite some time on tackling the pandemic. His comments were recapped by other news portals including HK Economic Times, Chinatimes.com, The Liberty Times and Now News.

HK Economic Journal published two separate articles by Senior Advisor (Entrepreneurship) Prof Erwin HUANG (Department of ISOM), respectively on Airbnb and the New Normal of Tourism and the Listing of the Ant Group. Meanwhile, HK Economic Times also carried another article on his perspective of career planning amid the pandemic.

HK Economic Times carried an article by Prof PENG Qian, Director of Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies, on the development and challenges faced by century-old family enterprises.

The Way to Develop an Everlasting Enterprise (Nov 18)
Mainland news portal YCWB shared the perspective of Adjunct Prof Oliver ZHAO, Department of Marketing, on how to promote business innovation in enterprises at a forum held in Nansha. He also talked about the key to entrepreneur’s success and building a century-old enterprise.

Synergies between HK and GBA (Nov 18)
Wen Wei Po and zijing cited comments by Prof Emeritus Francis LUI in a forum on the opportunities brought by the Greater Bay Area (GBA). He said that the GBA cities could complement with each other and the young talent should tap into the new opportunities in the region.

Adjunct Prof Steven DEKREY, Department of Management, said that students should consider the place where they want their career to be in order to decide where to study. However, he reminded students that many opportunities may require specific language skills.

A number of media portals, including New York Times, RTHK, HK Economic Journal, SingTao and AM 730 cited comments by Adjunct Prof KC CHAN, Department of Finance, saying that the suspension of listing the A+H shares of the Ant Group was a good move as it helped to protect the minority shareholders.
