HKUST EMBA Seminar in Sichuan (13 Apr)
Several mainland media, including , Tencent, Sinaand Sichuan Economic Daily and CDTV-2 reported on a seminar organized by the HKUST EMBA Program in Sichuan. Professor Fong Yukfai, Department of Economics, and Professor Ding Xueliang of Social Science, were among the speakers to talk about a topic on investment and international trade and discuss “vertical integration” and “strategic alliance”.
HKUST Courses for Chinese Executives (7 Apr)
SCMP carried an article in print on executive education, in which Associate Dean (HKUST EMBA, Executive Education & China Strategy) Professor Xu Yan introduced the School’s latest offerings. In response to the increasing demand for management courses delivered in Putonghua, Professor Xu said the School has designed a series of specialist programs, which are especially beneficial for those seeking all-important global perspective, such as courses on managerial decision making and leadership.
New Opportunities Amid Blockchain Development (2 May)
HKEJ carried a commentary (解牛集) by Dean Professor Tam Kar-yan and Chair Professor of ISOM. He outlined the huge potential of blockchain technology, which would open up new opportunities for 12 “use cases”, including digital identity, records, securities, among others. He also called on Hong Kong to nurture more talent in preparing for the change and mentioned a recent blockchain workshop at HKUST that invited Vitalik Buterin, the founder of an open-source blockchain platform – Ethereum. Vitalik shared hands-on experience of development blockchain applications with students.

The Financial Times announced the Top 50 MBAs for Finance 2017, in which HKUST MBA was ranked No.16. Local dailies including Sky Post, HKET and Ming Pao reported on the result and mentioned that the finance industry recognized the quality of HKUST MBA alums, with the highest salaries in Hong Kong.

Professor Edwin Lai, Department of Economics, gives an account of an important type of globalization - the global value chain, explaining how developing countries’ participation helps their growth.
Can Overbooking be a Win-Win Practice (14 Apr)
Business Times (Singapore) and SCMP Education Postpublished an article by Associate Professor Man Yu, Department of ISOM. Her article discussed the issue of the United Airlines passenger being forcefully dragged down from the plane. She commented on the air ticket overbooking problem and the rationale for airlines to sell more tickets than available.

HKEJ carried a commentary (解牛集) by Professor JT Li, Senior Associate Dean and Head of Management Department.
