The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology's School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) today established a local chapter of the international Beta Gamma Sigma honor society on its campus.
Beta Gamma Sigma was founded as an honor society of AACSB - The International Association for Management Education in 1913. Its mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement and personal excellence in the study and practice of business. The Society aims at fostering in its members an enduring commitment to the principles and values of Beta (meaning honor and integrity), Gamma (pursuit of wisdom) and Sigma (earnestness).

Only AACSB accredited business programs are eligible to establish a Beta Gamma Sigma chapter which is a symbol of high principles and superior achievement.
The Beta Gamma Sigma HKUST Chapter has successful recruited 280 inaugural members, all of whom have achieved academic excellence in their business studies. Specifically, the top 10 % of undergraduate students, top 20% of postgraduate students, and all eligible PhD students. Faculty members who have been awarded tenured position or been with the School for six years or more also received invitation to membership.

In addition, four prominent business executives were inducted as the HKUST Chapter's- inaugural chapter honorees. They are Mr Ronnie Chan, Chairman of the Hang Lung Group, Mr Peter Clarke, former Chairman, Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific, Mr Martin Tang, Chairman (Asia) of Spencer Stuart & Associates, and Dr Lawrence Wong, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
