MBA Ranks Top 15 Globally for 8th Consecutive Year
Six local dailies (, Sing Pao, Ta Kung Pao, HK01, Sky Post and Oriental Daily News) and some regional news website (World News, Public Now, Xianggaang) reported on the latest Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2017. All reported on HKUST MBA Program being ranked No.15 in the world or the best in Hong Kong after CUHK and HKU (No.36 and 39 respectively). Most papers highlighted the salary of MBA graduates, citing mostly the average salary of HKUST MBA graduates (USD149,538 per annum three years after attaining their MBA qualification).
Coverage on Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program
SCMP and WSJcarried supplements featuring the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA program and its latest intake of 40 students. The stories highlighted the combined strengths of the two business schools and efforts made by the program to revise the curriculum continuously to meet the evolving needs of the world, with remarks made by deans of both schools and students. Meanwhile, the Standard published its Postgraduate Program 2017, with a full-page report on the program and how it provides top-class career skills and knowledge to students.

Scam Education Website (31 Jan)
TVB News reported on a scam education website in mainland China. The website claimed it could help potential applicants of HKUST EMBA program to secure a place. In a response to the report, HKUST denied having any connection with the website and reiterated its fair admission mechanism, and that all applicants’ submitted qualification would be under close scrutiny. Hong Kong Economic Journal briefly reported on the scam the next day.

His research looks into the disclosure of financial information through management forecasts and argues that the usefulness of a management forecast is based not on its accuracy, but on consistency. A Critical Step on State-Enterprise Reform (24 Jan)
Hong Kong Economic Journal carried a commentary (解牛集) by Chair Prof JT Li and Head of Department of Management. Prof Li looked into the state-enterprise reform in China. He opined that the Central Government should step up in setting and regulating the market rules, instead of being an “active participant” in the market. Link

A Risky First Half in Financial Market (17 Jan)
Hong Kong Economic Journal carried a commentary (解牛集) by Prof Jerome Yen, Department of Finance, on the financial risks in the first half of 2017. Prof Yen said those risks included, notably the volatility on the China market, the uncertainties after Trump’s taking office, and the impending Sino-US relation.Link
QS Global 250 Business Schools (14 Jan)
Hong Kong Economic Times reported on the latest QS Global 250 Business Schools Report, in which HKUST Business School is ranked No.2 and No.8 in Asia Pacific for “Research Excellence” and “Employability”, respectively, achieving the best result among business schools in Hong Kong. Finance news portal Finet.hk also reported on the result.
Abusive Use of Justice (13 Jan)
Sky Post carried an article by Prof Francis Lui, Department of Economic, on procedural justice. He criticized some local politicians of abusive use of procedural justice by achieving their own agenda, citing the plan to build a “Beijing’s Palace Museum” at West Kowloon. Link

Vietnam Net reported on the demise of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), in which Adjunct Associate Prof Stephen Olson was quoted as saying that he did not expect any dramatic economic consequences from TPP’s demise as trade has been already open and flowing at robust levels amongst many TPP partners.
