A recent study by researchers at the Chinese University of Hong Kong has found that HKUST has the highest research productivity in economics in East Asia, based on the publication of their articles in top journals.
Conducted by Jang C. Jin and Louis Yau, the study covers the period from 1990-1996. HKUST's performance in economics research was described to be as good as some of the best economics departments in the US (Rochester/Illinois) over the period of 1984-93.
