The HKUST Business School PhD Program held its second annual student conference in mid-May. The conference, which was held off campus at the School’s Business Central venue, provided a platform for our PhD students to present and exchange ideas for research.
A total of 14 presentations were made by our students from across all six departments in the School. To stimulate cross-disciplinary interactions, each presentation was discussed by a student from a different department. Discussants from various departments made the presentations lively and more accessible to a general (business) audience. These cross-disciplinary discussions also generated “unexpected” questions that helped the speakers improve their research and future presentations.

The conference drew participants from undergraduate and master’s programs too, as well as participants from non-business programs and industries. Faculty members actively engaged by posing questions and offering insightful suggestions to presenters. The students, presenters, and audience all consider this conference as a valuable learning opportunity. Two best paper awards were announced and recognized based on the ratings from both the audience and faculty judges. The conference concluded in a relaxing setting where students and faculty members continued their interaction.
The conference was concluded with a dinner gathering in Crowne Plaza, a landmark in Hong Kong Kowloon East, where 85 faculty and students enjoyed a convivial evening together.
