HKUST was ranked among the top institutions in the fields of Statistics & Operational Research, Economics & Econometrics, Accounting & Finance, and Computer Science & Information Systems, according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings by Subject released on May 8, 2013.
A breakdown of the QS University Rankings by Subject shows:

- “Computer Science & Information Systems” ranked No. 12
- “Accounting & Finance” ranked No. 16
- “Economics & Econometrics” ranked No. 32
The research on which the rankings were based was produced by our Accounting Department, Economics Department, Finance Department and ISOM Department.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject covers 30 individual subjects and the measurements are based on various key indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations and the newly introduced h-index which measures both the productivity and impact of a scholar’s published work.
