HKUST Business Review

Rewiring Supply Chains for a Disrupted World Rising geopolitical tensions and rapid technological change are reshaping global supply chains at an unprecedented pace. For enterprises the challenge is no longer efficiency alone, but how to redesign manufacturing and sourcing networks for resilience, agility, and long-term sustainability. The HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute was established to address this urgent need. Guided by a vision to empower future leaders in a complex world, the Institute accelerates the creation, global dissemination, and practical application of knowledge critical to tomorrow’s supply chains. Jointly established by HKUST and global supply chain leader Li & Fung, it represents a new model of collaboration that brings together industry, academia, and the public sector. “At the Institute, we bring together HKUST’s research excellence and Li & Fung’s industry expertise to drive real-world impact,” said Professor LI Qing, Director of the Institute. “Our work spans the Greater Bay Area, Greater China, Asia, and beyond, while contributing to Hong Kong’s development as a multinational supply chain management center.” Through research, executive education, and industry engagement, the Institute focuses on innovation in business models, sustainable supply chain design, process re-engineering, and the rapid adoption of new technologies. It also plays a vital role in developing local and international talent through teaching, professional development programs, and specialist conferences. “By fostering collaboration among industry, academia, and the public sector,” Professor Li added, “we are committed to promoting supply chain excellence and helping organizations thrive in today’s ever-evolving market landscape.” As global supply chains face mounting uncertainty, the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute is equipping leaders to build resilience, agility, and sustainable advantage.
