Public Perception of Virtual Assets and Tokenized Money

7 This study commenced with a comprehensive desktop research and a thorough literature review. It then progressed to a large-scale survey aimed at collecting responses from the Hong Kong adult population, and concluded with an in-depth data analysis. Part I of the survey focused on investigating respondents’ views and experiences with virtual assets. It included 17 questions covering the following areas: awareness and understanding of virtual assets, experience with investing in virtual assets, intention to invest in virtual assets, and views on virtual assets investment platforms. Question branching was employed, allowing respondents to skip questions that were not relevant to them. The questions in Part I were identical to those in our previous study on virtual assets, enabling us to analyze emerging trends and identify any shifts in opinions over time. Part II of the survey aimed to assess respondents’ awareness and perceptions of tokenized money. It included 14 questions covering the following areas: awareness of different types of tokenized money, views on regulations, and opinions on using tokenized money. Part II did not employ question branching; respondents were required to answer all of the questions. The survey was conducted over a three-week period in November 2024 through a major online portal in Hong Kong. An email invitation containing a web link to the survey was sent to a random sample of the portal’s members. Additionally, the survey was made available on the portal’s social media platforms, allowing a random sample of the public to participate by clicking on the provided link. The survey was hosted on a secure online server. Before starting the questionnaire, respondents were informed about the background and objectives of the study, and their consent to participate was obtained. By the close of the survey, a total of 5,863 valid responses were collected. The survey consisted of two parts. Respondents were requested to complete both parts of the survey.
