Virtual Assets Report
METHODOLOGY 3 This study comprised two rounds of surveys, which we refer to as the Phase 1 and Phase 2 surveys, that collected responses from 9,495 adults in Hong Kong. Generally, the respondents were asked to provide input in response to questions related to the following areas: A data analysis was conducted after each round of the survey. This research was supplemented by a literature review on Hong Kong’s virtual asset ecosystem, trends and developments. The Phase 1 survey was conducted between 24 April and 23 May 2023, yielding 5,732 valid responses. The Phase 2 survey was conducted between 28 September and 23 October 2023, yielding 4,077 valid responses, of which 314 were from respondents who had participated in Phase 1. The surveys were distributed through a major online portal in Hong Kong that was used to offer online government services. The portal has a large database of active members that broadly reflects the demographic composition of the general population in Hong Kong. An email invitation with a web link to the survey, available on a secured online server during the survey period, was sent via the portal to a random sample of its members at the beginning of each Phase. Before starting the questionnaire, the respondents were provided with the background and objectives of the study, and consent to participate was sought from each respondent. The questionnaire used in Phase 1 consisted of 20 core questions. The Phase 2 survey consisted of the same 20 questions from Phase 1 and three additional questions, for a total of 23 core questions. Both questionnaires used question branching, meaning that the respondents did not need to answer all of the questions.
