The Fintech Talent Development, Competency, and Manpower Study 61 Sources of Fintech Professionals HKUST and Yale Collaboration Yielded Positive Results One innovative course offered by HKUST in partnership with Yale combined both synchronous and asynchronous learning in a blended online learning format. Students from more than 20 schools worldwide that participate in the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) partnership were able to enroll in the course along with MBA and MSc students from HKUST, with about half of those taking the fintech course from Hong Kong and about half from multiple schools worldwide. The combination of both modes of learning provided students with more flexibility in learning and scheduling their time for lectures, while also providing students with a rich discussion and intensive opportunity for real time learning in classes with peers. Executive education programs have not yet been introduced using such a blended learning approach of synchronous and asynchronous learning combined, but with the very positive results from this approach for MBA students locally and worldwide, such course innovations in the future could reduce cost and increase benefits over traditional online only or real time interaction only delivery alternatives. Fintech Qualification Fintech is a relatively new discipline and there is yet an international professional qualification with wide recognition. In Mainland China, the China Banking Association ( 中國銀行業協會 or CBA) launched the first training program for its Certification in Finance and Technology (CFT) ( 金融科技師認證 ) in Shenzhen in September 2019. The first batch of over 200 professionals graduated in December and the second batch of over 1,000 will be admitted in Q2 2020 based on an online mode. In Hong Kong, the Institute of Financial Technologists of Asia (IFTA) launched its Certified Financial Technologist program recently. The development of Professional Qualification is still in its infancy stage, and the curriculum and assessment method of these professional qualifications vary widely.
